More Great Quotes

Zach's best friend Scott recently went to Disneyland and got a really cool Lightning McQueen Shirt with lots of screen print racing decals. Since they got back a week ago, Scott has been wearing this shirt everyday, as kids have been known to do. Yesterday Zach says,

"Mom, I'm glad I have a lot of shirts. Scott only has one shirt now. But it does have a lot of cool stickers."

Poor Scott. I don't know why his parents don't buy him more shirts :)

I'm still not used to Brandon knowing how to read. Like it doesn't surprise me when he's reading a book, but when he reads signs or the headlines on TV, I'm always surprised by the questions he asks. Last night walking to the car he says,

"Mom, where is State Farm?"
"What?"
"That sign said, State Farm is there. Where is there?"
"Uh..."
I really had no response.

Our Doggie Door

Nate got tired of waiting for me to go out back with him...he just wanted to go out with his brothers! Jerry fixed the screen...but not until after I got a picture!

Nate's Chuck E. Cheese Birthday...trying again

Ok, so it has been 2 1/2 weeks since Nate's birthday and I'm still trying to get the pictures posted. It seems like whenever I have a minute to do it...I have Blogger issues. So here we go again...

We took the kids to Chuck E. Cheese to celebrate Nate's 1st Birthday. They all had a blast and Nate got to make his cupcake mess there! Happy Birthday Baby!

Happy Birthday Nate!

I can't believe it's been a whole year that we've had this little guy in our lives! We hope you have a great day, buddy! Here's some of our favorite things about Nate:
1. His high-speed crawl
2. How he brightens up and says "da-sa-sa" when he sees the dinosaurs on his wallpaper border
3. The way he points at everything and babbles like you know what he's saying
4. The way he tries to chase his brothers but can never catch them
5. How much he loves to be outside
6. His never-ending appetite for any type of food
7. His blonde bangs hanging in his eyes
8. His big blue eyes
9. His happy clapping
10. His enthusiasm when he greets us...you can never get tired of that!

Soccer Star!

Zach just finished a 6-week soccer class and he totally loved it! You see, Zach is 4 and in every other place in America he could have played soccer on a team this year. Brandon played when he was 4 and we lived in Dixon. But, alas, in Roseville, you have to be 5 and in Kindergarten. So Zach has to wait until next year. Our theory is that since there are already 4700 kids playing in the Roseville Youth Soccer Club, they had to cut out those 4-year olds. Anyway, he was bummed and was glad to start this class. He is really good dribbler and scored a goal about every other scrimmage including once where he scored 2! Way to go Zach! Dad can't wait to coach your team next year!

Toothless Wonder!

Brandon lost his 1st tooth today! So now I guess he really looks like a first grader. He's having fun sticking his finger in the hole, I remember it felt funny when I was a kid. Thanks to my pal Laurie for the tip about dental floss, it worked like a charm. For all you moms waiting for this milestone: when the tooth is really loose you just wrap dental floss around it crossing it in the front, then pull up with the cross. It popped right out and fell on the floor!

Our Drunken Sailor

Well, Nate took his first steps about 2 months ago. Now that he walks more than he crawls I thought I'd (try) and share a video. We'll see if this works. I really can't believe he's going to be 1 next week!

Quotes of the Week

Here's some good ones from the kids lately.

Zach was practicing his scripture for the primary program, "And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son to be the Savior of the World." I was giving him some advice.
Mom: Don't swallow "Father". Open your mouth and slow down.
Brandon (laughing): Swallow Father? I can swallow him. (He then runs over to Jerry and starts fake biting his arms.)
Mom and Dad laugh hysterically.
Brandon: Can we send that into the Funniest Videos? (He really wants to send something in.)

The kids and I were watching skiers on TV.
Mom: Are you guys going to learn how to ski this year?
Brandon: Yeah!
Zach: Yeah and I'm going to push the super fast button and everyone will eat my snow!

Nate all time: MAMAMAMMAMA

These boys keep us laughing all the time. We love them so much!

Good Bye Daylight Savings Time...

We really love daylight savings time...it's a bummer when it's dark before dinner and we can't play outside after Daddy gets home. We had a farewell trip to the park after dinner the other night. Good-Bye Sun, we'll see you in March!

Happy Halloween!

Our kids had a blast trick or treating last night! They would fill up their buckets and then dump them into Nate's wagon when they got full. The only downside was when at one house 3 dogs got past their owner and chased Brandon (who was already afraid of dogs) halfway down the street. He had been starting to like dogs, but that was a great setback. Memo to dog-owners: Kids ring your doorbell on Halloween. It might be smart to keep your dogs in another room if they are prone to wrestle you to the ground trying to get outside. Duh.

These pictures are actually from Brandon's school carnival and our ward Trunk or Treat. It took a lot of work to get the picture of the 3 boys...Nate kept crawling away so I had to have the boys hold onto him. It kept him still for this split second. Hope you all had a great Halloween!

Bishop's Pumpkin Farm

Every year we take the kids to Bishop's Pumpkin Farm. They love the hay ride, train, HUGE slides, corn maze, petting zoo, and hay bale jump. For me, it's all about the pumpkin apple muffins. I always buy a bag of 6 and horde them at home. Seriously, I don't share. We had a great day!

My Air Force Baby

Most of you know that Jerry and I met in the Air Force while at Scott AFB, IL and that I got out just before Brandon was born and then Jerry got out a little over a year ago. Well, apparently there were more long lasting effects than I thought on Brandon's expectations out of life. Remember he is only 6 and we actually only moved 3 times with him. But here is last night's conversation:

B: "Mom and Dad, we haven't moved to a new house in a little while."
M: "Nope, we're going to be here for a while." (Side note: especially considering how much our house has gone down in value since we bought it.)
B: "But I've gone to this school for 2 years now."
M: "Yeah, cool, huh?"
B: "Dad, do we have enough money to buy a new house?"
D: "Definitely not."
B: "So how long are we going to stay in this house?"
M: "I have no idea. Maybe until you go on a mission."
B: "Whoa."

I'm not sure what to make of this. But it was funny and we love him!

Whale Ride

Check out Zach and his friend Ryan doing a whale ride at gymnastics. Zach loves his gymnastics class...all the kids are our friends! We have our own class.

Zach's Haunted House

Grandma bought Zach a really cool haunted house gingerbread kit last week...he had been asking for it earlier in the week. It actually turned out to be a little more tricky than I first thought, but Zach had a blast. He really loves projects like this...I should try to do more of them. Anyway, thank you Grandma!

Cub Scout Campout...BRRR!!!

This weekend was the Fall Family Campout for Brandon's Cub Scout Pack. We went to Collins Lake, which is one of our favorite campgrounds. It was so fun...although a bit too cold!!!
Brandon earned his fishing and map and compass beltloops and got to participate in a flag retirement ceremony. Amazingly, for those who know Brandon, he didn't get silly about putting a flag in a campfire and managed to maintain the dignity of the ceremony. Way to go, Bud! Zach had a blast too and the best part by far was "Pack 507 Glowstick mania" when they busted out tons of glowsticks and the kids went nuts. Nate got a bit of a cold from being out, but all in all a fun trip!

I Give Up!!!

Well, I have a new problem with Nate that I've never had with our other boys...what to do with him while I take a shower. You see this is our first 2-story house. When the other boys were Nate's age I would put their breakfast on their high chair tray and push them back on down the hall to the master bedroom where they'd eat while I got ready. Well, obviously I'm not going to lug the high chair upstairs every morning. Nate used to sit in his bouncy seat, then he moved on to the exersaucer. Well, at 11 months old he's outgrown these so he's just been crawling around the bathroom. Not such a problem except that he plants himself against the shower door so I can't open it when I'm done. I had to call Brandon to come rescue me from the shower 3 times last week. So I'd finally had it...I just stripped Nate down and plunked him on the floor of the shower. He played and splashed happily in the corner while I had a much more relaxing shower.

San Diego Trip

We just got back from a trip to San Diego. It was a blast...we had to use our timeshare points by September 30 and I'm really glad we figured out time to get away. What fun! We went to Legoland, which was great fun for Brandon and Zach, the only downside was that unlike Disneyland, Nate couldn't go on ANYTHING. And they make an adult go with anyone under 48". Since Brandon is apparently 47.5 ", we had to go on everything twice so that each kid could go. Nate sat around a lot. So I highly recommend Legoland for kids 2-10. Brandon's favorite ride was the Driving School and Zach loved the log ride for some reason. They both love all roller coasters, and there are 3 there.

One thing I really recommend is a day at Mission Bay Park. The kids rode their bikes and we had a picnic and flew kites. It was a really relaxing day. On our way back to the timeshare, we stopped at La Jolla Cove and checked out the sea caves. They have neat kayaking trips to ones further out and there were a lot of people snorkeling...just give us a few more years and we'll all 5 be out there.

The San Diego Zoo is always a good day too. It's better than the Wild Animal Park because the animals are so much closer. At the Wild Animal Park, you have to kind of get lucky to see them. Zach really wanted his picure taken with this hippo...go figure.

Brandon also had a great idea to use our river tubes in the ocean...I wasn't sure how it would work, but it was actually great. Brandon named our new sport "tube surfing" and he was at it for quite a while. He's definitely ready for a boogie board...maybe next summer.

Go Sharks!

OK, so I'm hoping that one side effect of starting a blog will be that I remember my camera more often. So far...a little better, but not good enough.

Brandon had his 2nd soccer game of the season on Saturday (I missed the first one as I went to Time Out for Women...a blast!) and I was excited to take pictures and post them, but of course I left the camera sitting on the kitchen table. I was irrationally mad. So this picture is of Brandon in the backyard AFTER the soccer game...

The Sharks did a great job...it was a pretty even matchup and they tied 4-4 with the Ruckus. They are all still getting used to the bigger field and goals in the U8 division. Brandon had some great defense with a couple of good kicks to clear out the goal area. Hopefully we'll get some action shots of another game!

Preschool Triathlon

Well, Zach is now a gold medal athlete after competing in his first triathlon yesterday. The events included an obstacle course run, a sponge bucket race, and a tricycle course. He was brilliant in all events despite not having ridden a tricycle in like 2 years since he got his big-boy bike. Nonetheless, the medal ceremony was a proud moment for all. He keeps telling us what a great job he did.

The Little Helper

Nate is getting way too mobile. I was folding clothes today while he played on the floor of our bedroom. The next thing you know he had pulled ALL the clothes out of the bottom drawer of Jerry's dresser. He's so funny...while I'm folding clothes he felt free to leave the room and explore the playroom and the kids bathroom on his own. But when I left for a few seconds to put something back in the laundry room he starts crying and sits there with his arms up until I pick him up. I guess the exploring has to be his own initiative...heaven forbid I should leave HIM! We really love this little guy!

OK, "Twilight" Fans...

Last month we went with Jerry on a business trip to Sequim, WA on the Olympic Peninsula. We had a blast and explored some of the terrain featured in Stephanie Meyer's Twilight series. These pictures are of the kids and I hiking in the Hoh rainforest, where Edward and Bella's meadow is located. I didn't see any vampires or werewolves...but it was just as pretty as she describes it. Clearly, we were keeping hydrated as evidenced by Brandon's gatorade moustache. Nate enjoys being in that backpack...snore :)

Zach's bowling party

Zach is 4! He had an awesome birthday party at the Bowling Center. He invited everyone in his preschool class and a few other friends. Here's the biggest thing I learned: Girls are VERY different than boys. We had 2 lanes of boys and 1 lane of girls. The boys literally tripled the girls score. The girls were too busy talking and kicking the bowling balls. I just watched them in amazement...I guess there's a reason we only make boys around here! Zach had a great day and now tells people that he's almost 5.

First Day of School

Well, my babies are growing up right in front of me. How can the days seem like years sometimes but the years go by like days? Zach started his last year of preschool and Brandon is in 1st grade...how does this happen? My baby is gone all day until 3:00. I kind of miss him, I've gotten used to having him around the last 6 years. Well, they both love their classes and have great teachers, so I guess I can't complain. Only 9 more months until summer vacation...
