Brandon has been playing some great basketball this season. This shot went right in. He also had a couple really nice steals. Then he decided he needed a challenge and shot the rest of attempts from 3-point range...silly guy. I'll try to get a shot or two of Zach next week.

Eagle Lake 4th of July

For some reason, I wasn't taking pictures this weekend. Which is a shame because it is a BEAUTIFUL spot. We had a great weekend with Grandpa, Grandma, and Aunt Jena. We also brought Shasta on her first campout. We found 2 geocaches, did some canoeing, and a lot of biking. There was a 5 mile trail along the lake that the kids loved, and I actually did get a few shots of that.

Twilight Camp 2010

Brandon had a great time at Cub Scout Twilight Camp this year! The theme was sports and his group got to play basketball and soccer, do bowling, archery, BB guns, and water rockets. He also made a model helicopter and train and learned to use a pocketknife. It was awesome!

To the Beach...

We had a great time on our family vacation to Daytona Beach, FL. The boys loved how warm the water was. We really just hung out on the beach and at the resort pools all day. It was the most relaxing vacation we've had yet. Every evening we did something, like mini golf, a baseball game, Toy Story 3 and the night slides at a waterpark. We all had a blast and the kids keep asking when we can go back!

School's Out!

Today was the last day of school for Brandon and Zach. I now have a 3rd grader and a 1st grader! Where does the time go?!?!?

We attended Kindergarten graduation where they sang a couple of cute songs. My favorite was to the tune of "New York, New York", but it went,

It was very cute! Zach also brought home a perfect report card, all 3's and +s. He's so excited to be a first grader!

The end of 2nd grade, of course, isn't quite as celebrated. But Brandon also had a great year and got the Principal's Jaguar Club award (behavior and citizenship) for the 3rd trimester.

Well, boys, like they say around Junction, "Great Job, Jaguars! Grr, Grr."

Spring Swimming Lessons

The boys had a 4-day session of swimming lessons this week to get them back into it after the winter...especially since we are spending next week in Daytona Beach, FL! They love hopping back in the pool. Brandon and Zach have been improving their strokes and Nate has been getting used to the water. They should have a blast next week at the resort!

Junction Luau

We all had a good time at the Junction End-of-year Luau! The kids loved singing and dancing to some summer hits...Brandon's class did Surfin' USA and Zach's class did the Hukilau. We all loved the teriyaki and shave ice too! Aloha Summer!

Nate's Little Gym Show

Brandon's Baseball Party

The Express had their team party last night at Cool River Pizza. They have a great party room with 2 Wii systems set up so the boys were all set. Jerry was the manager this year and our friend Ryan Pinney was a coach...it was so fun having them work together along with our other friend Jen Packer as team mom. Thanks for all your help guys! Brandon and all the boys had a lot of fun this season!

Memorial Day Campout

We had a great Memorial Day Weekend camping at Sugar Pine Lake with Grandpa, Grandma, and Aunt Jena. The boys got to go riding on a real mountain bike trail complete with streams, bumps, rocks and cliffs. It was pretty exciting...only one fall for each kid :). We also took Grandpa's canoe out fishing and to explore an island in the middle of the lake. We had a great campsite for exploring, with a stream, lots of fallen trees, and rocks to climb. The boys and Jerry even built a pretty good dam on the stream. Of course, we enjoyed the campfire and S'mores along with the Frost Boys Band playing every night!

Zach's T-Ball Party

The Riverdogs had their end-of-season party this week at Big Spoon Yogurt. This was super popular with the kids! Zach enjoyed eating his yogurt, getting his trophy, and Coach Joe saying that, "Zach probably hit the the ball into the outfield more than anyone else!" Zach had a lot of fun playing this year and can't wait to be in farm next year!

Duck Class Zoo Trip

I went to the Sacramento Zoo with Zach's kindergarten class today. The weather looked ominous, but held out through our time in the zoo and eating lunch and loading the kids back on the bus. Then the heavens let loose on all the parents as we trekked the half mile back to our cars...

Zach's Karate Tournament

Zach participate in his first karate this month. He did 2 events and came in 2nd place in Forms and 4th place in self-defense. A trophy and a medal...not a bad first round. Way to go!

Brandon's Baseball Season

This year Brandon played in the Farm Division for the Round Rock Express of the Houston Astros organization. His favorite position is 3rd base and he's a very consistent batter. He has kind of a slow swing, but he gets a hit everytime. We're excited that next year the boys can be on the same team, that will simplify our lives a little bit! Great season, buddy!

Zach's First Baseball Season

Zach has played T-Ball for the Charleston Riverdogs this season...the AAA affiliate of the NY Yankees. He has had so much fun and done really well. He loves playing pitcher and (for some reason) catcher. He's had some amazing hits out into the outfield and made some great new friends. Most of the kids are in another class at our school, so now he knows more people and I'm sure some will be in his class next year.

Wolf Cub Scout

Brandon's cub scout pack had it's blue and gold banquet this week and Brandon earned his wolf badge! Way to go! They were congratulating the boys and wishing them luck on the bear trail as they got their wolf paint...little does Brandon know he'll spend another year on the wolf trail when he turns 8 this summer and switches to our ward's pack. Too bad school cub scouting and church cub scouting don't sync up as well as they could, cause these first 2 years of scouting have been great for Brandon. Oh well, I'm sure he can use the refresher course anyway!

Basketball Season

Brandon and Zach just finished a season of Little Thunder basketball. They had a great time with the Rocklin High basketball players. Brandon was on the Tarheels and had a great season...he averaged about 6 points a game and also got a lot of steals. All his recess practice has paid off!

This was Zach's first season of basketball and he had a lot of fun. There were 5 kids from his class on his team, so maybe they should have been "The Ducks" for their class mascot, but they were the Badgers. Zach also had some steals and scored a few points as well. It's amazing the difference between our first and second boy...Brandon couldn't get it all the way up to the hoop yet in Kindergarten, and Zach has no problem. You just learn so much playing with your big brother!

Today was our Cub Scout Pack's Pinewood Derby! It was a lot of fun. It was Brandon's first time building a car as we had to miss the one last year. He and Jerry had a lot of fun building it and Brandon loved watching it race. In 8 races, of 4 cars each race, he came in 2nd every single time. So he ended up 17th out of 67. Not bad. Jerry says next year he'll work on the axles...he didn't have time to mess with them this year. Good job guys!

My Big Boy...

Nate moved into his big boy racecar bed last month...he loves the Lightning McQueen sheets we got for it. I love that his legs don't get stuck in the crib slats anymore. I don't love that he can get up and come visit us in the middle of the night.

A New Addition...

We also had a new addition to our family over the holidays...a 75 pound German Shepherd/Husky mix named Shasta. She is a very nice dog as far as it goes...(I'm really not that wild about pets). But the kids love her and Brandon is no longer afraid of dogs!

Christmas 2009

Ok, I'm back. Our computer died just before Christmas and even though we got back online quickly, I just haven't felt like blogging...but I better catch up or I never will!

We had a great Christmas this year! My parents, sister, and grandparents all came to celebrate with us and it was fun to be together. We went to look at Christmas lights on Christmas Eve and then had our traditional evening of stories and songs. The next morning we had a mountain of presents...there were 10 people after all! Brandon and Zach's favorite gift was Band Hero and Lego Rock Band. Brandon especially loves this and is usually giving some sort of concert. Zach is also quite partial to the Lego Indiana Jones wii game. They both also love that Grandpa and Grandma got us 2 more wii remotes so we can all play together. Nate loves his Bat Cave castle that Grandpa and Grandma got for him and his plasmacar.

Darda Racetrack

This might be a little late for all you organized people out there, but I thought I'd share something my boys got for their birthdays from Grandpa and Grandma that would make a great Christmas present. The Darda Create a Course building system is available on Amazon and you have 5 more days to still use free super saver shipping :). It is really great. You can build a million different layouts and then you just rev the cars and let them go...no batteries required. From our one set, we currently have 2 tracks built. A big shout out to Brandon for being my demonstrator in the video. Check it out!

The boys have played with it a lot since they got it in August and we've set up 5 or 6 different courses. I definitely give this one 5 out of 5 stars. Happy shopping everyone!

Junction Holiday Sing

Junction put on a great Holiday show last night! Each grade sang 2 songs complete with hand actions...they did a great job. Brandon and the other 2nd graders did "Frosty the Snowman" and "All I want for Christmas". That was perfect for them since most of them ARE missing their two front teeth. Zach and the Kindergarteners sang "Jingle Bells" and "Rudolph". Sadly, the sound system ran into a glitch for the Kindergarten and they had to sing a capella. I think that threw them off their game a little, but they were still so cute! The evening was topped off by cookies and hot chocolate and a visit from Santa. What a fun evening! Too bad we did NOT have great photo angles on either kid...

Christmas at Disneyland

Disneyland is so amazing at Christmas! We love the way Small World and The Haunted Mansion get completely redone. The parades are great and it even snows after the fireworks! We had a blast down there for a few days after Thanksgiving. It was fun to meet the characters all dressed up for the holidays. Nate is so big now...he got to go on the Matterhorn Bobsleds. Where did my baby go? Only 4 more inches until we're all on Space Mountain together! Here's a few shots of the trip (and yes, the first 2 our camera was in the wrong mode).

Nate's Day at the Train Museum

To celebrate Nate's birthday, we all went to the train museum...probably the favorite place of many 2-year old boys. He was so excited. He just kept saying, "Look at that train!" Of course the Thomas play tables were the biggest hit...you'd think we didn't have one at home!

It was a perfect outing to go along with getting his new Geotrax set for his birthday!

Grandma's Birthday Weekend

Back in October, we had a great weekend with Grandma and Grandpa for Grandma's birthday. They came over on Friday for a birthday dinner at Claim Jumper and then came to Brandon's baseball game. Saturday morning we went to Zach's soccer game and then played a raucous game of haunted mini golf. Thanks for a great weekend!

Brandon's Fall Ball Season

I didn't get any great pictures of Brandon playing baseball this fall. The light is kind of weird and the fence gets in the way. But for posterity's sake: He played on the "Hooks" in the Farm Divison (half coach pitch, half machine pitch). At the end of the year banquet his coach commented on what a consistent batter he is. He got a hit every time he was up, most of the boys couldn't say that. Great job Buddy!

The End of Soccer Season

Zach just finished his first season of soccer. His team was the Dolphins and he had a lot of fun. He got to play with 2 of his friends from church, Tanner and Rebekah, and have his Dad coach his team. His favorite position was defender where he did a great job either kicking the ball back the other way or forcing the dribbler to go out of bounds...he was particularly adept at that one. They had a hard time getting around him! He also played offense sometimes and scored a goal! He's excited that next season he'll be the oldest/biggest kid on his team since his birthday falls just on the other side of the deadline to move up divisions. Congrats on a great season buddy! And he is the one with the ball in the photos :)

Zach's Thanksgiving Program and Feast

All the Kindergarten classes at Junction put on the cutest Thanksgiving program yesterday. They dressed up as Pilgrims, Indians, or Turkeys and sang some really cute songs. My personal favorite was "I'm a Little Pilgrim...here is my knife and here is my gun. When I go out hunting here me shout, deer and turkey better watch out!" And here I thought we lived in California, the land of political correctness. It was pretty fun to watch all their songs.

After the show, we all headed to the classrooms for a feast. They actually said a blessing. My favorite part of that was, "Thank you ecosystem for growing this food...". They went on to thank their parents for preparing it and their friends for being there. It was a nice day to hang out with my little Indian.

Nate is 2 years old today! I'm really sad that I don't have any more babies. We love Nate so much and his personality adds so much to our family. Here are our 2 favorite things about Nate:

1. This kid is so confident. He is absolutely sure he can do ANYTHING his big brothers can do. We've seen him try to shoot baskets on a 10-ft rim and get really mad at the height requirements on amusement park rides.

2. Nate is also very loving. He runs up and gives you hugs just because he sees you.

We had a great time at our Ward Trunk or Treat party! Thanks Jen for all your work! Our boys had fun playing all the carnival games and especially going around to each car to get candy! Nate was so cute as Woody and I also loved Brandon's skeleton pirate. Zach, on the other hand, insisted on being Luigi. Which I had serious reservations about. But his buddy Scott was being Mario and so I let him go for it. They did look pretty cute and they won the award for "Best Couple". I warned Stacey those costumes weren't the most, um, manly.

International Night

Our school had an International Night tonight. Each class represented a country and they made a display and served a food from that country. Everyone got a passport to get stamped as they "journeyed" to the different countries. Zach's class did Italy with meatballs and Brandon's class did Canada with Nanaimo bars. They each had a shift to stamp passports. Overall, a fun evening.

Fall Family Fun

Every year we take the kids to Bishop's Pumpkin Farm for a day of harvest fun. This year was a blast as usual. We're getting smarter every year. We got there at opening time on Saturday morning and did the hay ride and train ride first before the line. Then we did the corn maze and all the play areas when it got a little more crowded. Everyone had a blast and we got some good pumpkins!

Third Time's the Charm

We have tried 2 other times over the past year to go to the new California Academy of Science in Golden Gate Park. Both times, tickets were sold out for the day when we arrived.
Since the kids didn't have school Monday, we decided to give it another shot, especially since not all schools were out for Columbus Day today. We finally made it in! Brandon and Zach loved the planetarium, and everyone loved the 3D Bugs show, the aquarium, and the huge dioramas of all the African animals.

Brandon thought it would be cool to be stuffed after you died like these lions...um, ok, weirdo.

Fish keep all 3 boys entranced for quite a while.

One of the new features...a rainforest sphere. It was humid in there!

We last went to the museum in December 2003 on the last day it was open before closing for 5 years...that was a pretty busy day there too. Sarah T. and I went with our 3 kids, now we have 7! The renovations were great and it's definitely a worthwhile trip!

My Friends Rock!

We won't even go into how behind I am on the blog...
But I just had to post this one.

Several of my friends are VERY into holiday decorating...and somehow they still let me hang out with them, despite my lack of motivation in this area. I always love how their decor looks, but just haven't gotten around to getting a whole lot of great stuff myself (besides Christmas decorations of course). So last week they gave me a birthday present...my birthday is in January by the way, but they wanted me to get full use of it....

These blocks have six sides with greetings for Halloween, Christmas, Valentines, Easter, 4th of July, and a birthday. Very cool. I might talk about getting bang for your decorating buck! Thanks so much Laurie H., Steph, Laurie C., and Stacey. Like I said, you guys rock.

Labor Day in the Gold Country

This weekend we discovered a new spot. We were camping at Collins Lake but took a ride up to South Yuba River State Park. What a beautiful place! We spent a little time hiking but the kids mostly loved tubing in the river. There was a nice channel with just enough fast water. It could totally be a day trip, so next year we'll have to head up on a really hot day and try it again.

In honor of Zachary's 5th birthday...here are 5 of the many things we love about Zach!

1. He is the BEST brother...being in the middle has helped him learn to be loving and kind to Brandon and Nate.

2. He says the funniest things, for example, "Brandon, can you read this? I guess Dad can't read directions."

3. He's a really good athlete. The soccer and baseball fields have just been WAITING for him to turn 5.

4. He's really good at Wii Sports Resort swordfighting, he can beat Jerry in under 10 seconds and the rest of us in under 5.

5. He loves to learn new things...he is just giddy about starting kindergarten.

First Day of School

My cute boys went back to school today! I can't believe I have a second grader and ANOTHER Kindergartener! They both had very good days and love their teachers so we're looking forward to a great year. My eyes got a little teary dropping Zach off, but I didn't let him see. He was so excited! He barely even looked up from his activity when I was waving good-bye. The only hitch we had was when I went to pick up him up from AM Kindergarten...he apparently didn't realize Brandon wasn't coming home too and it took some convincing from me and his teacher to get him to leave. I really don't think he wanted to stand around and wait for 3 more hours!

Last Days of Summer

With school starting, we tried to get in a few last minute adventures. We checked out Skyzone Trampoline center which was a blast. I took the boys down to San Luis Obispo to see their great grandparents. We hit the beach and a childrens museum while we were there. We also went to one more Rivercats game. Adios, summer 2009!

The BounceU Pajama Throwdown

Brandon and Zach decided to have their birthday party together this year...it's great when you and your brother have birthdays a month apart and are only 2 years apart!

So their friends came to BounceU all decked out in pajamas for some jumping, climbing, and a lot of sugar. It was a lot of fun with the kids hitting the bounce house, air gun alley, obstacle courses, slides and spider climb. Afterwards, they got to make their owns sundaes and have cupcakes. They had so much fun with all their friends.

Stinson Beach

The boys and I had a great day planned at Stinson Beach with the Masedas...but it got off on the wrong foot. We were supposed to meet them in Dixon at 10am and we were in the car at 9...when it didn't start. After AAA came and charged the battery, we were off...until we came to a screeching halt in Sacramento where we sat in traffic for an hour. So we got to Dixon at 12. We decided to still go and we're so glad we did. It was a beautiful day at the beach and the kids had so much fun. We stayed until 6pm and then headed out. Like the crazy women we are, Melissa and I decided to take 8 kids to Red Robin in Fairfield on the way back. So with our 2 one year olds, 2 five year olds, 2 seven year olds and 2 nine year olds, we settled in for a nice relaxing meal. I guess maybe it didn't look so relaxing because the next thing we knew a guy walked up to our table, said, "My Gosh, it's like a kindergarten class", threw a $100 bill on the table and left before we could say a word. Well that doesn't happen everyday. So we had a free dinner for 10 to end the evening. Thanks Masedas...we miss you so much!!! Zach says, "When is Parker going to move to Roseville?"

Catching up with the Family

Of course, the main point of our NY trip was to visit Jerry's family. We got to see both his Grandmothers, his Dad and Cheryl, and all his aunts, uncles, and cousins on his mom's side. We saw his Mom's family on a day we had a dead camera, but hopefully they'll send us some pix. They had a great get together at his Aunt Patty's house. Thanks again for putting that together, Patty and Jane!

Lake Bonaparte

We spent the last week of our trip to NY staying at Jerry's Dad's cabin on Lake Bonaparte. The boys loved it. There was a rope swing off the dock and so many fish that you could drop a line with bread on it right in front of you and catch fish...which they did. Great fun! We also hit up the Watertown Zoo and Science Center and took a day trip to Old Forge to a huge water and amusement park.

Hill Cumorah Pageant

We were able to attend the Hill Cumorah pageant in Palmyra, NY during our trip. We were a little nervous about the kids, especially Nate, since it didn't start until 9:15pm. They actually enjoyed it though, especially the music and special effects. It was, however, a lot colder than we were expecting. We were shivering good by the time it was over!

The next morning we took a tour of the Joseph Smith Farm and the Sacred Grove before heading out. The Sacred Grove is so peaceful even with our monsters in it. They wanted to say a prayer just like Joseph Smith...you can really tell when they are feeling the spirit.

Great Wolf Lodge Rocks!

We stayed 2 nights at the coolest hotel in the world while we were in New York. Seriously, we checked in and didn't emerge for over 48 hours. There was an indoor water park, a miniature golf course, restaurants and an arcade. It was a blast. We think they need to build one in Lake Tahoe...we'd make it an annual tradition.

The lobby had these animated animals that talked to the kids. They had shows nightly too.

We had great time in Niagara Falls experiencing this amazing sight. We went on Maid of the Mist boat right directly to the bottom of the falls. They say mist, so that's what I was expecting. More like drenching rain. Seriously it's good they give you ponchos. Brandon and Zach thought it was great, although Nate was giving us a look like, "Seriously Guys, we're doing this on purpose?"

4th of July

We had a great 4th of July weekend this year...unfortunately I only had the camera handy for one event.

We went to the Rivercats game on Friday with Grandpa and Grandma and a sold out crowd. They had a great fireworks show after the game. The boys especially liked getting Rivercat claws to wave.

Then on Saturday we went to the Parade in downtown Roseville and to the festival in the park. That night we put on our own fireworks show.

On Sunday, my Uncle Roger and Aunt Flo dropped by to spend the night while they were traveling. It was great to catch up with them.

Marine World

Mom took us all to Marine World in June. The boys had a great time on all the rides. Brandon and Zach loved the Cobra roller coaster and Tony Hawk's Big Spin. Nate enjoyed all the kiddie rides too, which his brothers consented to go on as well. We actually made it to 2 shows this time. The Sea Lion show was hilarious and the Dolphin show was amazing as usual. Thanks Mom!

I can't believe my first little baby is 7! How does it go by so fast? Brandon got to celebrate his birthday at his Grandpa Ron's cabin on Lake Bonaparte in New York. Since Brandon is 7, here's 7 things we love about Brandon in no particular order:

1. Brandon is 100% forgiving, he never holds a grudge.
2. He likes everyone...everyone is his friend.
3. He's a really good reader.
4. He has a killer baseball swing.
5. He is fearless and confident.
6. He still likes to cuddle.
7. He loves music, we get concerts all the time.

There's 7 of many great things about Brandon!

Camp Week

We decided to do some camps the first full week of summer break. Brandon and Zach went to golf camp and worked on their driving, chipping, pitching and putting. They did really great!

Nate and I did a music camp where he got to shake his booty with the other toddlers.

Brandon also had Cub Scout Twilight Camp in the evening. His favorite things were water rockets, water games, the obstacle course, and archery. Jerry had fun helping out too.

Bubble Lady

We've been hitting the weekly library shows that are part of the summer reading program. It's really too bad I didn't have the camera at the 1st one when the animal show involved a bear and an alligator.

But I did have it along for the Bubble Lady and Zach got chosen from the audience to help. I always thought he was a bubblehead.

Children's Discovery Museum

On the way home, we made a stop at the Children's Discovery Museum in San Jose. It has a lot of great exhibits, but the kids particularly loved the waterworks. There were so many ways to use water to move plastic balls around. We were probably at this exhibit for 45 minutes and it was the only one we visited twice.

Monterey Fun

Whenever we go to Monterey we always hit 2 things for sure: the aquarium and Dennis the Menace Park. I'm not sure which one the kids like more. They all love fish and sharks. We sat on the floor in the huge outer bay tank for quite a while watching the sharks swim by. But Dennis the Menace is so full of really dangerous playground equipment...just what our crazy boys need!

Camping on the Beach

We camped on the beach in Monterey and the kids loved it. We had an especially good climbing tree that kept the big boys busy. It was also fun to play on the beach. Even though it was about 65 degrees outside. Only one of our children was crazy enough to actually go in the FREEZING ocean. Can anyone guess who that would be?

Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk

We took a little trip to celebrate the end of school. Our first stop was the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk...so much fun! The best thing was watching Nate go on rides with his brothers. They went on several kiddy rides first, so he got used to go and was NOT happy when we went on some bigger rides that he wasn't tall enough for. Brandon and Zach did a great job taking care of him on the rides.

Nate and I have been doing a Toddler Gym class since January. It's a lot of fun and he gets some energy out. Today was the last day of the class so they had a little show where you could bring friends and family to show off your tricks. Well, we brought Zach. So it was a little hard to take pictures and help him with his stunts, so these aren't fabulous. But it was fun!

Zach's Amazing Game

Today was Zach's last day of an 8-week soccer camp. He's done this camp before and always done really well. This round he seemed to be in a bit of a slump during the games. He was still doing great in the drills and his skills were coming along, but he couldn't seem to score in the games. Last week, he finally scored a goal and was feeling much better. That really must have boosted his confidence, because in the last game today...he scored FIVE goals. These are small-sided games where all 3 players play offense and defense, but the coach finally made Zach stay back on defense so the other kids could have a chance. Way to go, Zach! He's so excited for the real soccer season to start in the fall!

Cool Dad Tip #23

Hey this is Jerry blogging so you may be seeing this before Annette does but it is too good (or bad, depending on your viewpoint) to not get up right away. So for all you Moms out there, here is one way Dads are cooler than you (especially in little boys' eyes)

To setup the scene, Annette is at work, the boys and I are done with dinner (outside by the way, no mess inside (tip #1 for you dads out there). The boys are alternating between jumping on the trampoline and playing basketball.

Zach: "Oh man, I wish I could play basketball on trampoline"

The angel on Dad's Shoulder: "That's not safe!"

The devil on Dad's other shoulder: "Hey, grab a couple of bungee cords to pull the safety net under the basket, adjust the basket hoop height to just above the safety net and the boys think you are the greatest"

Karate Belt Graduation

Friday Zachary earned his Little Dragons Purple Belt and put on a great show at the graduation celebration. He's learned so much in Karate. I think he's going to take a break for summer vacations and soccer season and we'll see if he wants to go back later in the fall.

Today was Zachary's last day of preschool! I can't believe he is a Kindergartener now. He keeps telling me today that he isn't in Preschool anymore. They had a great little show where they showed off their Zoo-phonics and all the sight words they know before singing some fun songs for us. I was so surprised by all the sight words he can read...definitely ready for Kindergarten! He's had a great 2 years of preschool and we'll miss you, Miss Cathy! Good thing we'll still see her at church. Zach asked if his kindergarten teacher would go to church with us too...probably not, buddy.

Cooling off

Tuesday when Brandon got home from school the boys wanted to play outside on the trampoline, but quickly discovered it was a little too hot for that. So we put the sprinkler beach ball on the trampoline with them for some nice cool bouncing. Of course, now the windows are wet as well as everything on the patio, but they really had fun.

Lassen Volcanic National Park

We had a great Memorial Day Weekend hiking, biking, canoeing, fishing and hanging out with family at Lassen. It was a little cool for swimming but we managed just about everything else. We love camping! Here are a few highlights from the trip.

It was fun to watch the boys figure out that teamwork was the best way to carry the raft.

Today at lunch:
Mom: Zach, I'm really going to miss you when you're in Kindergarten everyday.
Zach: Don't worry Mom, I won't miss you.
Mom: Really? Why not?

I'm not sure I follow the logic here, but the bottom line is that this is Zach's last week of preschool and apparently he's way more ready for Kindergarten than I am!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JERRY! I grabbed this picture because he looks so young holding Brandon. Here are some of the things the boys and I love about him:

1. He does the dishes every single night.

2. He fed all our babies bottles in the middle of the night because he says it's ok for him to be grumpy at work...I have to be nice to the kids.

3. He jumps on the trampoline.

4. He coaches baseball and soccer teams.

5. He plays Star Wars.

6. He will always share his food and treats with kids that ask...]Mom's more selfish :)

7. He never misses an IEP meeting for Brandon.

8. He listens to me when I am trying to make a decision...no matter how many times I change my mind.

9. He got out of the Air Force so he wouldn't have to be gone so much.

10. I've never had to doubt for a second that his family always comes first, before any job, hobby, or TV show. I've learned how rare that is...thanks Babe.

We love you so much...Happy 32nd Birthday...I'm glad I robbed your cradle!

The first swim of the season

We had some unseasonably hot weather in Roseville early last week. So the kids and I went to the pool at the gym twice...it was so nice. I really love summer. I hope it comes back soon...it has been pretty cool and windy this week.

Little Monkey

Brandon and Zach were playing frisbee in the backyard when one of Brandon's throws went over the fence into the empty lot next door. Before I could snap my fingers Zach hopped up and over the fence, tossed the frisbee back, and climbed back over. We'll have to get him out of that habit as the builder gets closer and closer to building that last house in the neighborhood...the one next to us.

Another fun outing during Spring Break...we headed down to the Stockton Childrens' Museum with our friends Tanner, Parker, and Carson. Their cool Mom, Keri, came along too. It's a fun place to play. Even when your kids don't really pretend to actually BE firemen, they have fun climbing on top of the truck. I think our kids all liked the pretend grocery store and this tunnel that showed you how an eyeball works.

Ok, I had to post this picture of Nate. He is waiting for his Dad and brothers to get off of Star Tours...that's the story of your life when you're not 40 inches tall! There will be a few more Disneyland posts over the next year as we upgraded to an annual pass...this is real moneysaver if you plan on going for a few days every year because you can use one pass for 2 years trips if you time it right. So we'll be seeing Mickey and friends again soon!

Our kids love the Disney characters, but usually would rather go on rides than wait in line to meet them. They are usually happy just to wave at them and walk by. Here's a few times when the line was not too long. Nate and I stood in line for Pooh and Tigger while Jerry and the big boys were on Splash Mountain. But I only got pix of him running up and hugging them and immediately running away. He thought it was great fun to play tag with them.

Spring Break at Disneyland

We dashed down to Disneyland for a few days during Spring Break and had so much fun! This will take a few posts since it's hard to pick just a few pictures. We'll start with some ride photo ops. Brandon's favorite ride is Space Mountain. Zach loves the new Toy Story Midway Mania ride, and Nate LOVED It's a Small World. He was standing up dancing and clapping the whole time.

Fairytale Town

Being the amazing parents that we are, we let the medicine that Brandon takes to fall asleep run out. Which meant that he was up all night. Not really a problem for us since he leaves us alone, but I figured it might not lead to the best day at school. So since he was asleep at 7:30 when he needed to be up, I just let him sleep. He woke up at 10 and I decided to just take the kids on a field trip. So we took advantage of the nice weather and went to Fairytale Town where they could just run and climb all over the place. You can tell your kids are getting a little beyond the intended age when they don't play on the equipment the way it was intended. They were usually on TOP of the stuff. Oh well, they had a blast and it wasn't too crowded.

World Autism Awareness Day

Today (April 2) is designated by the UN as World Autism Awarenss Day. Most people know that Autism has been on the rise over the last 10 years. It is now diagnosed in 1 in 150 children and 1 in 96 boys...one of them is ours.

Autism is a complex neurobiological disorder that typically lasts throughout a person's lifetime. It is part of a group of disorders known as autism spectrum disorders (ASD). Today, 1 in 150 individuals is diagnosed with autism, making it more common than pediatric cancer, diabetes, and AIDS combined. It occurs in all racial, ethnic, and social groups and is four times more likely to strike boys than girls. Autism impairs a person's ability to communicate and relate to others. It is also associated with rigid routines and repetitive behaviors, such as obsessively arranging objects or following very specific routines. Symptoms can range from very mild to quite severe (Autism Speaks).

We're lucky. Brandon's symptoms are on the milder end of the spectrum and our other boys show no signs of autism. Currently, there are no effective means to prevent autism, no fully effective treatments, and no cure. Nobody really knows what causes autism. It will probably end up being like cancer, where there are many causes and many types. If you've met one person with autism, you've met one person with autism. They all have different symptoms and different treatments are effective for each one.

We're so proud of Brandon and how hard he works everyday...especially having to put up with a Mom for whom patience has never been a strength :) Ellen Notbohm wrote a book called, "Ten Things Every Child With Autism Wishes You Knew". I like a quote from the end, "I didn't choose to have autism. Remember it's happening to me, not you. Without your support, my chances of successful, self-reliant adulthood are slim. With your support and guidance, the possiblities are broader than you might think. I promise you, I'm worth it". Thank you to everyone in our lives who gives our son that love and support everyday!

Finally...no training wheels

We have joked for the last year or so that Brandon (and Zach too) will go on missions with training wheels on their bikes. In their defense, we really haven't taken the time to teach them. We took the training wheels off for a week last summer and they didn't get it, so we put them back on so they could ride. Well, I came across an article on the web about teaching kids to ride. Here' s the gist: You take off the pedals and lower the seat so the kid is sitting with their feet flat on the ground. They use their feet to push and coast along. Once they are coasting with their feet up for 20 feet or so you put the pedals back on and they take off. It claimed you could have your kids riding in an hour, because they'd be teaching themselves. I figured what the heck...and it worked! Brandon is a now a bike rider. He and Jerry went on a ride tonight...it's amazing how much faster they go without training wheels. They can actually ride together. Great Job, Brandon!

Unfortuately, Zach is not quite tall enough to sit on the seat with his feet flat on the ground (he's on his tiptoes) so the method didn't work quite so good for him. So we'll either have to find a 12-inch bike to use or go back to the old "hold onto the seat and run behind" method. I'm sure he'll get it soon enough.

Play Ball!

Saturday was opening day for Woodcreek Little League and the T-Ball Sidewinders! Brandon played Pitcher for the first game and had 2 Sportscenter plays! Of course, only in T-Ball does the pitcher get to field grounders...but he had 2 that were hit pretty hard on the ground and he made great stops and the throw to first to get the outs...the 1st baseman even caught the throws :) It looks to be a great season. We are just amazed at the difference a year makes. The T-Ball division is for 5-6 year olds and Brandon's fielding skills are SO much improved over last year. Jerry is coaching his team again and having a lot of fun. Zach is so looking forward to playing next year. It's really tough to be 4 sometimes, especially when some of your school friends can play since their birthdays are a little earlier in the year. Oh and Nate is so much more of a pain at the games than he was last year. It was so nice when he just sat in the stroller. Now he throws pacifiers and keys in the garbage can and climbs on the bleachers trying to get hurt.

Blue and Gold Banquet

We went to Pack 507's Blue and Gold Banquet last week. The kids had fun looking at all the cool cakes people made for the cake auction. We ended up winning a chocolate cake that was super rich...Jerry and the kids all loved it. Brandon and the other boys in his den all earned their Tiger advancement. Here he is in line getting ready to get it. Another kid walked in front of me when he was actually getting it...so much for that picture. Great Job Brandon!

Radio Disney Rocks!

Brandon and his Cub Scout Den went on a field trip to the Radio Disney studio to pass off the communication portion of their Tiger badge. He had so much fun! They got to see how everything works, but the most exciting part was making their own little blurb that will play on the air.

Snow much FUN!

We had a GREAT time at Brandon's Cub Scout snow trip to Soda Springs today. It was actually snowing and we had to use chains on the way up. And Nate decided sometime last night to remove the boys' jackets from the ski bag so they had to borrow various extra items from his den leader who amazingly had a closet in the trunk of her car. Seriously, her son is 6 and she had a size 24 month jacket to fit Nate. None of the boys looked like they belonged skiing in these outfits, but at least they were warm. We went tubing for a couple hours in the morning and then after lunch Brandon and Zach headed over to practice their skiing in the magic carpet area. They both did so great that they decided to try snowboarding too...they did great with that too. (They seem to have great balance...wonder why they can't ride bikes without training wheels?) Brandon says he likes skiing best (that's my boy), but Zach said, "Dad, I don't want to ski anymore. I just want to snowboard. I'm a boarder now." We're in trouble now. It was a great day and we practically had the place to ourselves. Definitely worth playing hooky from school and work.

Last summer during swimming lessons I made friends with another spectator mom. Her boys are the same age as Zach and Nate and we have enjoyed hanging out ever since. She recently reached the tough decision of having to go back to work. We'll miss our fun outings. For our last hoo-rah, we took the kids to the zoo after preschool on Monday. "My future is definitely not in sports photography." Every picture I took at Brandon's basketball game clicked right AFTER he passed or shot the ball. And they were just horrible anyway. We went to Howarth Park in Santa Rosa this weekend while visiting my parents. It was 70 degrees out and beautiful. The kids had only been to this park in the summer before and were wondering what happened to the train, carousel, pony rides, and petting zoo.
